On Thursday, October 15, Rockstar published the launch trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI. About 54 seconds in, a pink stunt plane flies over a beach with the words “DacityCoin” and “AudaCity” painted on it. A wing-walker sets off a flare. The shot lasts a second, maybe two.
On Solana, a token called Dacity Coin had been sitting at a market cap of roughly $104,000 for days. Within an hour of the trailer going live it was worth about $3.18 million. That is a move of around 2,900%, and it happened on a token with no team, no product and no connection to Rockstar at all.
The token existed before the trailer
This is the part most of the headlines skipped. DACITY wasn’t created in reaction to the trailer. It was launched on Pump.fun on October 11, four days earlier, after leaked gameplay footage showed the game’s protagonist Lucia doing a parachute stunt for a company called AudaCity. A screenshot from that leak carried a line of dialogue that reads like a memecoin pitch: give people a show and they’ll buy Dacity Coin before they know what it is.
Somebody on Solana took that literally. The token spiked to about $1.14 million in its first day, then did what most Pump.fun tokens do and bled out to around $145,000. By the morning of the 15th it was drifting at roughly $104,000, which in memecoin terms is the waiting room before zero.
Then the trailer dropped, the plane appeared, and the same token that nobody wanted at six figures was suddenly the only thing anyone wanted.
What the trade actually looked like
Decrypt pulled DexScreener data for the trailer-day session. Twenty-four traders made more than $10,000 each. The top one turned about $1,900 into roughly $44,000. An early buyer who had put in around $20,000 before the trailer was sitting on about $285,000 of unrealized gains by the following week.
The flip side showed up fast. After the $3.18 million peak the market cap fell by more than half the same day, to about $1.5 million. Anyone who bought the top of the first candle was underwater within hours.
What makes this one unusual is that it didn’t end there. Most trailer pumps are a single spike and a long fade. DACITY kept climbing in the following week. Decrypt reported a peak near $15 million on October 21. One exchange page lists an all-time high around $24 million on October 23, which we could not confirm from a second source. As of October 25 the token was trading around $8 million with about $2 million of daily volume on PumpSwap.
What Rockstar has said
Nothing. Rockstar didn’t respond to Decrypt’s requests for comment on either of its stories, and neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has said a word publicly about the token. There is no partnership, no official coin and no hint that one is coming.
The in-game context is thin too. AudaCity appears to be a fictional company inside the game, and “Dacity Coin” is its fictional product. Whether it’s an in-game currency, a stock-market style asset like the one in GTA V, or just a joke about memecoin stunts, nobody outside Rockstar knows yet. The game ships November 19. Until then every theory about what the coin does in the game is a guess, and the token on Solana will trade on those guesses.
The copycat swarm
Once the main token moved, the clones arrived. Phemex counted at least 46 tokens using the Dacity name across five chains, at least 30 of them on Solana. There are versions on Ethereum, on Robinhood Chain, and a Robinhood Chain clone alone did more than $2 million in volume. On Pump.fun, 19 different tokens were launched paired against DACITY itself, with names like LUCIA, AUDACITY, GTA6 and BabyDacity.
This matters for one practical reason. If you searched “Dacity” on a DEX aggregator in the hours after the trailer, the top result wasn’t necessarily the token everyone was talking about. The main Solana token’s mint address is the one that starts with nxPqZ4F7 and ends with pump. Anything else with the same name is a different token with a different, usually much worse, holder base.
How the token looks under the hood
For a Pump.fun launch, the structure is clean. Mint, freeze and metadata authorities are all revoked, which means nobody can print more supply, freeze your tokens or change the name and image. About 18 million of the original billion tokens were burned, leaving roughly 982 million in circulation.
Concentration is where it gets less comfortable. Phemex’s analysis found the top ten non-pool wallets holding at least 20% of supply, with the largest single wallet around 4%. That isn’t a cabal-level number, but it is enough that a few wallets deciding to exit together would move the price a lot. Reports of bundled supply at launch couldn’t be verified, so we’ve left them out.
We have seen this movie before
Game trailers are good at this. In early 2025 a token called Dill Bits, named after a fictional currency shown in a Fortnite season, went from about $107,000 to nearly $4.8 million and then fell 96%. When Epic’s Tim Sweeney posted that he hadn’t launched it and asked what was wrong with people, the token pumped another 2,700% in ninety minutes on the attention, then dropped 82%. Epic told Decrypt there was no Fortnite-endorsed crypto.
I didn’t launch it. What is wrong with you people.
Tim Sweeney, Epic Games CEO, on the Dill Bits token
Go back further and you get the Squid Game token in 2021, which rose by millions of percent in a week on a Netflix name it had no right to, then collapsed to nothing in minutes when the developers blocked selling and walked off with around $3.4 million. That one was a straightforward scam. Dacity doesn’t look like one. But the pattern of a brand name, a spike, and a crowd arriving after the move is the same.
If you are tempted
The honest answer is that a token like this has nothing to value it on except attention, and attention around GTA VI is going to come in waves until the game ships and probably after. That cuts both ways. Each new trailer, leak or interview is a potential catalyst, and each quiet week is a potential 50% drawdown.
- Check the mint address. There are dozens of Dacity tokens. The one with the volume ends in “pump”.
- Look at the top holders on Solscan before sizing a position. Twenty percent in ten wallets means thin exits.
- Treat any “official partnership” claim as false until Rockstar says otherwise. So far it has said nothing.
- Remember what happened to Dill Bits. The second spike was bigger than the first, and so was the drop.
We’ll update this piece if Rockstar comments or if the game reveals what Dacity Coin actually is. Until then, the plane in the trailer is the entire thesis.
